Toy Story 3 (DVD)
Advantages: Fantastic, so glad i went to see it, it's packed with punch.
Disadvantages: The first 20 minutes or so is a bit boring...
Toy Story 3.
I wasn't very keen to see this at first, but my sister really wanted to see this and she was having a very bad week, so off we went to join all the other kids and their mums and dads into the cinema. This was how I felt about the Toy Story films, although I had seen the first one and thought it was good, I still felt it was a film specifically for kids and didn't know it was going to contain much to enlighten me.
The first 15 minutes was actually a bit of a drag for me, and already I was thinking that mine was a wasted ticket. But as the purpose of the story and unfolds, from then on, I was absolutely hooked. It does take about half an hour before you get settled into the film, and I did actually see a several people walk out and not come back, maybe there were other reasons, I don't know. But if you can last the first half an hour and be patient, the rest of it is superb and will have you thoroughly engaged and absorbed fully into the drama. The kid's film becomes much more and turns into a film that probably only an adult would fully appreciate and understand. The characterisation of the toys is brilliant, the mannerisms and qualities of each personality, the themes and issues really reflect in the realities of life, the thought process, the emotions, and psychology, it's amazing that they managed to pack so much in this film.
There are some new characters to the film, some very obviously well known, and some although under another guise, they still feel very familiar...
I'm not what else I can say without spoiling it and revealing the end. The story starts off with the Toys worrying about the fact that Andy has grown up and will be going to college. He hardly plays with them anymore and it's either donate them to charity, store them in the attic or dump them. The story so far sounds a bit boring, and I was a bit put off and unsurprised too, but this instalment holds a lot of surprises, and unexpected twists and turns, and it is also very funny and clever.
It really plays on your heart and packs a real punch in the senses, I noticed that even a small child next to me was deeply affected by it. It's not one to be underestimated and not only is it the best instalment of Toy Story, it is probably also one of the best out this decade.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: Don't underestimate it...
