Advantages: Nice happy ending
Disadvantages: Some deep moments, perhaps too much for kids
Wow, this film was unbelievably sad! I'm sure anyone who saw this film (and isn't made of stone) cried at least once during this film. Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang reunite for the last time to give us all a fond farewell in this heart warming finale. Most sequels are not the greatest, but this is almost as good as the first Toy Story film! Andy is all grown up and off to college and needs to get rid of some of childhood toys and some childhood friends too. His mom encourages him to donate his toys to a day care centre, the toys are understandably sad and feeling rejected, try to settle into their new life at the day care centre, with Lotso, the cuddly grandpa bear of the new community, who makes the whole experience seem wonderful. Until, horror of horrors, our beloved gang are forced to be the toys allocated to the youngest kids who treat the toys terribly! It goes without saying, they quickly try and escape this horrible place before Lotso and his muscle men catch them of course! The gang end up in a recycling centre, with the evil Lotso who is trying to destroy their chances of being happy with a loving child like Andy ever again! This is where the sad art comes in. No, sad is not the word. Heart wrenching and the stuff of nightmares! Perhaps a little too deep for a kids film? They obviously manage to escape (now that really would be too deep if they didn't!) and Andy is briefly reunited with his pals, before deciding on a sweet and strange little girl, who Woody had a brief encounter with earlier in the film when he was separated from his pals, before he returned to save them. So, we leave the gang, happy in the knowledge that they will live a full and happy life with their new owner, except, what happens when she leaves for college?
Summary: Overall family friendly film.
