Advantages: Enjoyable, imaginative

Disadvantages: Very low budget, derivative story

Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) is a cop in the future, a post-apocalyptic time where humanity is threatened by Trancers, zombie-like creature. When it becomes apparant that his nemesis is trying to change the past, Deth goes back to stop him.
A fairly cliched and tired premise is given a new twist by the sheer imagination of the script. Made by Charles Band before he decide to carbon copy all his films and shoot in Romania, there are a number of extremely good touches. A couple of examples: first, the time travel technique involves taking over the body of an ancestor, if no direct ancestor can be found, time travel is not possible. This explains certain plot points as well as allowing for a few humerous scenes (Deth's boss turns up as a small girl, because she's the only suitable body available!). Another cool bit is a time-strecthing device, which turns one second into ten, and gets Deth out of some stick situations.
Overall an enjoyable film whose verve and imagination overcome the shortfalls of the obviously limited budget. Not greatly successful, but it did spawn 4 sequels, none of which come close to this one.
