Advantages: Great Storyline

Disadvantages: Dated Animation

I wrote a message to Ed the head of Films just to get this film added and told him loads of people would review it, he told me he'd added it but that he didn't believe many people would.

This film is about the good Autobots and the evil Decepticons, The Autobots want to return home to the planet Cybertron but to do this they will have to defeat the Decepticons who are now on the planet. But the Decepticons are planning to destroy Autobot city and get the Matrix of leadership, Anyway the Decepticons leade Megatron finds out about the Autobots plan and hijacks an Autobot shuttle killing the Autobots onboard they then plans just to sail straight into the City.

But Daniel (a young Human) and Hot Rod are fishing and see the Shuttle coming so they rush to lookout mountain where they notcie the hole in the shuttle. Hot rod fires on and a big battle ensures. The Autobot leader Optimus Prime ends up dying as a result of a fight with Megatron (The saddest part in any kids movie), but he passes the Matrix on first to Ultra Magnus. Any way Megatron gets betrayed by Starscream and thrown into space but the gaint planet Unicron saves him and turns him into Galvatron with one mission to get the Matrix the only thing that can kill him.

Unicron is a giant planet that is eating everything in its path and its just eaten Moonbase two that contains Daniels Dad and Beetlebum so now the Autobots must go to Unicron to save them.

The one thing you must notice is the amount of stars they got in this film which include Eric Idle (Wreck-Gar), Judd Nelson (Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime), Leonard Nimoy(Galvatron/Unicron) and Orson Welles (Unicron) who died during making the film,so Leonard Nimoy completed the role. The recordings made by both actors were slowed down. So the animation isnt great but the storyline is good and when you are a kid you cant believe that Optimus Prime dies but the ending with the assault on Unicron makes up for that.

There
is a DVD due out which is uncut because they needed some cuts to make it a PG, they are :-
The film release included a conversation in which a character responded with "Oh, s***!" - the line somehow was kept in, apparently as a joke by the creators. It was deleted from the first video release but recently restored on subsequent releases. The character that said this was Daniel's Dad Spike and it was when Unicron attacks the moonbase he is stationed on.

Right before the battle between Megatron and Optimus Prime, Optimus is seen standing back up for no apparent reason. This is because in the orginal version, Dirge had charged at Prime but Optimus grabbed Dirge and slammed his head into the ground shattering Dirge into pieces, this was deemed too violent and was cut from the movie. This probably happened because Optimus prime had just ran over about 4 of his friends.

Another bad word taken out of the video release was spoken by Ultra Magnus shortly before he was killed by the decepticons to get the Matrix off him. Orginally he says "Open! Damn-it, open!" as he tries to open the matrix but is unsucessful. It was re-edidited to remove the word "damn".

In the theatrical version, Grimlock says the Line, "Grimlock kick ass!" but was later changed in the Video Release to "Grimlock kick butt", This happens when they attack Unicron at the end.

A great feel good movies with some good songs on the soundtrack including Stan Bush singing The Touch (Which Dirk Diggler records in Boogie nights). Its basically Good versus Evil but then hey so was Star Wars and theyve both got a scrolling credits title. It is easy to see that it was only made to kill off old toys and bring in new ones

Springer - 24.04.01

I can't believe you neglected to mention Springer and Ultra Magnus's cheesy one-liners or the almost infinite quotability factor, but kudos for recognising a true classic.
