Transformers the Movie is a Michael Bay big screen big money transfer of the popular eighties cartoon.

Whats it about:

Sam Wicketey (Shia LeBeouf is an everyday kid who dreams of being cool and popular, ok that's where things make sense, now things get a tad implausible, basically the Transformers are made up of Autobots (Goodies) and Decepticons (Baddies) they were battling on their home planet for control of an all powerful box which gives the transformers amazing power, the Autobots wanted it to ensure Decepticons didn't destroy their planet.

A brave autobot sneaked the box from their home planet and it ended up underwater in the Antarctic, the only evidence of where this box is, is an imprint of a map on the glasses of Wicketey's great grandfather, which were left to him as an heirloom.

Are you still with me? Well the Decepticons come to earth to find the glasses which contain the microfilm of the map and go after Sam, thankfully Sam's car turns out to be Bumblebee (an autobot) and a chase to find the box and battle of autobots and decepticons takes place.

My View:

Ok so the plot is very far fetched but this is still a really enjoyable film, first off LaBeouf is a really good lead, funny, charming, geeky and he really lights up the screen, his relationship with the seemingly more adult Mikaela (Fox) is a good one and they make good leads for the adventure that ensues.

During the film we see John Turturro as a double dealing Agent, Jon Voight as the Defence Secretary and Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel as heroic Air Force operatives defending the earth from Decepticons.

Its great seeing Optimus Prime, Megatron and some of the Transformers in CGI form, I would have liked to have seen more of my favourite characters but do realise this would have taken away from the pace, action and story.

So that's the acting, but to be honest this is all secondary, this film is a Michael Bay Film so its all about the high cost special effects, the transformers look amazing and these huge robots provide thrills and spills in car chases, huge fights and brilliant pyrotechnics. This is a crash and explode kind of film, that looks great, the plot can easily be dissected but the visual effect and the amazing action keep you gripped from start to finish.

I expected this film to be rubbish but I really enjoyed it which is unusual for me with Michael Bay Films, this is a roller coaster of a film enjoyable for small and big kids alike.
