Tremors (DVD)

Description: Genre: Action & Adventure / Theatrical Release: 1990 / Director: Ron Underwood / Actors: Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward ... / ... more
Tremors (DVD) ... DVD released 21 July, 2003 at Universal Pictures Video / Features of the DVD: PAL / Tremors didn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunnelling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humour that it made everything old seem new again. It also has a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battle a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. --Jeff Shannon

It turns out that a bunch of huge, worm-like subterranean monsters are to blame, and along with local siesmologist Rhonda (Finn Carter) and the rest of the tiny local township Val and Earl become locked in a desperate bid for survival as they attempt to escape from the creatures, pole-vaulting from boulder to boulder, taking refuge on rooftops and 'fishing' for the creatures with sticks of dynamite attached to strings. It's a great lighthth...more

(Given the earthquake that hit parts of the UK today, it seemed appropriate to post a Tremors review. You never know, giant, mutant underground worms may have caused it!) Ahhh! The 'B' Movie. Beloved of 50s film-makers out to make a quick buck for very little outlay. Beloved of cinema-goers everywhere on the promise of licentious thrills! Of course, most of them were utter rubbish, and have (deservedly) vanished from sight. Yet so popular was the genre that every so often, a homage appears. Tremors is one. Everything about Tremors screams "B MOVIE". From the shonky monsters, the minimalist plot and the basic sets. Yet, whilst it is ...  Read the complete review

The title is a quote that Val says to Earl in the film and beleive me there all like that one. Directed by the unknown (at the time and still now) Ron Underwood, Written by S.S Wilson and Brent Maddock, who had both wrote Short Circuit and *batteries not included and starring Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward who could have guessed how good this film would actually be. It turns out that Tremors was a sharp, funny and fast action/comedy mix that was a 90's take on the B movies, and a sleeper that never become popular until its video release as it went largely unseen in the cinema. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward play Valentine Mckee and Earl Bassett, two handy men in the ...  Read the complete review

TREMORS (1990) Welcome to the glorious eighties people! Not only a time of twisted sister haircuts (see the Lost Boys for more) and hideous fashion sense, this is also the decade that brought fourth with it the mighty grail-like virtue of VHS allowing for straight to video garbage dressed up like a film to haunt every shelf of the local video store, preying on many an unsuspecting victim. High concept ridiculousness, often without the budget for semi-decent effects and directed by what you can only presume as a team of monkey's, your Dad would, more often than not, rent such guff because the likes of Blade Runner and The Terminator had already sold out. ...  Read the complete review

Tremors is a monster comedy from 1990 which stars Kevin Bacon and Burt Ward as handy men working in a remote mining town in Nevada. The town is just a couple of buildings and a few people in the middle of a large desert expanse. Life is simple and boring for the leading duo, until strange things start happenning. The two decide to the the town for bigger things and along the way find an armed man dead on top of a water tower, appearing as if he had taken refuge from something. On discovering other strange scenes, the guys assume there's a crazy guy on the loose but they soon find out the cause for these bizarre attacks is something much worse. Premium Review Tremors (DVD): Val And Earl Find They Have A Bad Case Of Worms... (757 words)

Tremors is a sci-fi horror movie from little known director Ron Underwood which pays homage to the monster movies from the 1950s and features Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward in the main roles. Given this information you'd be forgiven for thinking it was going to be a piece of low budget trash, but trust me you would be wrong. Tremors is a very clever movie, expertly treading the fine line between being an out and out send-up of the B movies it imitates and taking itself too seriously. Despite its box-office failure, it has, since its video release rapidly gained popularity building quite a fan base a sequel and various low budget imitations which never came close to ...  Read the complete review
