Advantages: Unique Visuals. Plot years ahead of it's time. Great action sequences.

Disadvantages: Only that at the time it might have been tricky to understand

I think that this film is really under-rated. Considering it's subject matter & how ahead of it's time it was. It should really be given more credit.

The first part of the plot is that Kevin Flynn, played by Jeff Bridges, used to work for a computer company. Whilst working for them he developed some video games. The company found the game files. Stole the work & copyrighted it as their own proceeding to make millions from them. Flynn is sacked & buys a video game arcade to keep earning money. Flynn keen to prove the games as his own, breaks into the companies office & starts trying to hack the computer to obtain the proof he needs. The computer mainframe that he is doing this to is hooked up to a special laser in development. Whilst he is attempting to hack it, the computer fires the laser, turning him into a computer programme & simultaneously transporting him inside the mainframe. The film then carries on with his story inside the computer, trying to get out.

The film, whilst set inside the computer, is shot using a very unusual & labour intensive technique which gives the film a unique look. It was one of the first to use CGI (The American Film Academy who give out the Oscars banned it from entering the special effects catagory because it used CGI).

It really is a very entertaining & interesting film. It has great action sequences & a plot years ahead of it's time.

The special feature's are really in depth. The documentery discussing the techniques used in the film & their origin is very interesting & shows how much work went into the film. It also shows you some concept work for TRON 2.0 which is currently in production & will be called TRON LEGACY.

I would recommend this film to anyone. You should definitely give this a watch because there are quite a few people who think that this is one of the best & most important films of the 1980's. Me included.

Summary: A very impressive film from Disney. Deserves more credit than it gets.
