Advantages: Ben stiller type comedy/large budget

Disadvantages: Jack Blacks performance a bit underwhelming/2nd half not as well focused as 1st half

After recently subscribing to Lovefilm (which I really believe is good value if you are into films and games) Tropic Thunder arrived on my door step...not my choice but my boyfriends. I have to say that I was expecting this film to be rubbish, don't get me wrong I do enjoy comedy films like Anchorman etc but I had read a few reviews when it came out and it didn't seem my cup of tea. However I was surprised...Robert Downey Jr's character (an American playing an Austrailian playing a Black guy) had me in stitches. Ben Stiller's character also had me chuckling but I did find Jack Blacks character fairly weak.
Overall I felt the premise of the story was not particularly original and found it to have the same kind of feel as Spinal Tap and A cock and Bull Story in essence a fairly post modern parody merged with Dodgeball/Old school type of humour. I was also surprised at the budget, as it seemed larger than most comedy films and I definitely felt that this added to the comedic effect.
This definitely isn't a rubbish film and I reckon that if you have liked Ben Stillers past films then you will probably enjoy it.

Summary: Spinal Tap does Apocalypse now....
