Advantages: An enjoyable film to watch
Disadvantages: Very violent and adult orientated, misleading title
True Romance is a great film. It is not great because it is a box office smash or huge budgets, but because of its different storyline mixed with a set of talented actors and actresses. Listing the cast is like reading out a Who's Who of Hollywood. Christian Slater plays his usual mixed up persona on screen again as Clarence, an average guy with many aspirations and a reoccuring vision of Elvis. His on screen girlfriend is played by Patricia Arquette, working as a prostitute called Alabama. She has crazy ideas that make her well suited to Clarence. They are mixed up in a situation that requires them to leave town, hottly persued by the evil and twisted character played by Christoper Walken. Various other famous actors play roles in this film. Brad pitt plays a spaced out surfer dude in California who is flat mate to Slaters friend. Val Kilmer plays the Vision of Elvis who advises Slater on his course of action in times of need. Dennis Hopper plays the part of Slater's father who is a security guard and down on his luck. A odd bond between father and son is apparent but is only tested as the thumbscrews are added by Walken. How long will Hopper cover for his son? The entire film was completely opposite to what I thought it was going to be. I imagined it to be more along the lines of 4 Weddings and a Funeral by the title. Instead I was greeted by a violent shocker that would be more at home with Tarrentino classics. It just goes to show you should not go on title alone. Saying this, It was a thoroughly enjoyable film but not one to watch if you are offended by blood, violence or harsh language. I would reccomend this film to people who want to watch something a little alternative but still with high quality Hollywood names.

- 08/01/02 yes but I meant he did not direct it like he did with Pulp Fiction. |

- 08/01/02 Think this is an absolutely fantastic film - but what can you expect from a product of Tarantino's mind! |

- 08/01/02 This is a wicked film, and funny you should compare it to Tarintino because he actually wrote it.
The music's great off it as well. Nice one. |
