This is a completely edited version of my original review of Twilight on DVD. My initial review was my first attempt at reviewing on DooYoo and was not up to standard, thank you for the comment it is appreciated and here we go. I am a little apprehensive about doing a DVD review now having read other peoples excellent posts but here goes ( I think I will stick to other stuff which I seem to do a better job at reviewing).
So Twilight, well what made me settle back into a nice comfy seat one evening and watch this vamp film. Well firstly, I am a vamp genre fan and enjoy films such as Interview with a Vampire, Queen of the Damned, Dracula and The Lost Boys (not seen that one in ages and must re watch as I believe it is one of the best I have seen). My teenage daughter had this DVD (Twilight) and coaxed me and my hubby into viewing, initially I was dubious because I imagined this film to be purely for teenagers and that I wouldn't be able to relate to it - well I was proved wrong! Very wrong in my case. The film had me captivated in the first 10 minutes and after the film ended I was left wanting more - well that was tough because the next installment, New Moon was no where near ready for release at the cinema never mind the DVD release and so my daughter informed me that to discover what happens next I would need to read - yes READ - the books and thankfully she insisted that I start with Twilight. I am so glad that I did as the books give so much more and are hard to put down. Passion and Romance are what draws me so much to Twilight, I don't know how it effects anyone else but it just does something for me - I clicked.
This story begins in a small town called Forkes and it is there that we meet Bella (Isobella Swan) for the first time. She is beautiful in a very unassuming and natural way. She is to stay with her father Charlie, a decision that she made herself as she felt that she was holding back her mum and her partner from travelling. Forkes is a small and close knit community which is near beautiful forests/woods and not far from the coast. The weather is not great as a rule which is why it is suitable for vampires to reside in this area as these vamps (the Cullens) can assume a pretty normal daytime life if the sun keeps at bay. It is at school where Bella, whilst with new friends quizzing and generally being fascinated by her, glimpses Edward Cullen - a vampire - who it is clear she is drawn to and her mouth drops almost every time she meets his gaze.
As the film progresses there are intense moments where, it is very obvious that when in close proximity to Bella, Edward really struggles to control himself - her blood is so tempting that he finds it very difficult to be anywhere near her. Over time Edward realises he can control his urges to kill Bella and also realises, after he saves her from being crushed from a car that skids towards her on ice in the parking area at school, that he has strong feelings for her - he wants to protect her. Protect her he does and with impressive conviction as we progress further and Bella is set upon by men in a dark alley - a car skids into the scene at speed and out at impressive speed rages Edward to save Bella. Later in the film three deadly vamps become a threat to Bella, in particular a keen hunter named James, these vamps are proper vamps unlike the Cullen family they feed on human blood - the Cullens feed on animals and call themselves veggies. James is out for Bella and in an edge of the seat chase gets his girl - that is until Edward arrives, followed by the rest of the Cullens. James is not around long after, he is killed which leaves his mate Victoria furious - she will be around in future films so watch out for the redhead! The ending is satisfying and having enjoyed the passion and thrill of this film I am eagerly awaiting New Moon and then Eclipse and the Breaking Dawn. Having read all the books the films should prove to be worth waiting for and I believe that Breaking Dawn will be in two parts due to the sheer content of the large book and may be in 3D!
So this is a vamp genre fan, who also likes Vamp Diaries and True Blood, who was wrong to think this film would have nothing to hold her attention - far from it, this is one of my favourite films - just so passionate, I love it.
