Twister (DVD) ... DVD released 23 January, 2006 at Uca Catalogue / Features of the DVD: Dubbed, PAL, Widescreen / Twister was a mega-million-dollar blockbuster--helmed by a director (Dutchman Jan de Bont) hot off another scorcher hit (Speed)--that flaunted state-of-the-art digital effects and featured a popular leading actress (Helen Hunt) who would win an Academy Award for her next film (As Good As It Gets). But ask anybody who's seen it and they'll tell you who the real star of Twister is: the cow. Not to give anything away, but the cow is one of those inspired little touches (like, say, Bronson Pinchot's career-making cameo in Beverly Hills Cop) that adds a touch of personality to a gigantic Hollywood production. The story is blown out the window after an impressive prologue in which Hunt's character, as a little girl, witnesses her daddy being sucked into a tornado. Basically, Hunt and Bill Paxton are thrill-seeking meteorologists chasing twisters in order to study them (and help warn people of them, of course) with a new technology they've developed. If you thought the Kansas tornado in The Wizard of Oz was every bit as scary as the Wicked Witch of the West, then this may be the movie for you. --Jim Emerson

The story really tells of the two main characters relationship which has fallen upon rocky times. They are determined to get there work done at any cost and there passion for Tornado's really comes through. The effects in this film are wonderful. I love anything to d...more

Premium Review Twister (DVD): As Bad As The British Weather? (496 words)
by - written on 03/10/09 (Very useful, 31 readings)
Rating:

Twister is a big effects block buster movie that came out back in 1996. The film was nominated for two Oscars and did well at the box office. It was a real big film, with great spceial effects and a fast story. I really like this film and have seen it many times, the effects are breath taking. The film is written by Micheal Crichton which tells a story in itself as he is an excellent writter. Directed by Jan De Bont who also does a really good job of directing an excellent film. Twister tells the story of a group of Storm chasers out in Tornado Alley in America. They are chasing tornados trying to get scientific research completed. They are up ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Stormy Weather (285 words)

This gets a 4/10 purely for how Helen Hunt looks (foxy as heck!). I'll get you over some facts first, this isn't about the famous board game where you spin the spinner & get tied up in knots. It's about the mental idiots who chase storms for a living to try and enhance the science of weather prediction and tornado behavior, following their research and the highs and lows of their lives chasing storms. Going from being a no-one in Terminator, to being second string in Aliens, Bill Paxton plays the starring role of Bill (just in case he can't remember his own characters name I assume?), a former storm chaser who is about to settle down into married life ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Twister (DVD): Man, This Movie Blows... (757 words)

I suppose it depends what you want from a movie as to whether Twister is going to be for you or not. If you are looking for deep convoluted plotlines, multi-faceted characters, perfect scripting and Oscar winning performances all round...then you came to the wrong place. If, on the other hand you don't care if your actors are plastic, the characters 2 dimensional, the plot...welll what plot? it doesn't exist BUT with awesome special effects which will literally blow you away(pun most definitely intended) then this IS the movie for you. Personally, I would prefer a combination of the two but obviously this is far too much to ask for. Twister is one of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review It Will Blow You Away (357 words)

Rating:

Twister is a simply stunning movie from Speed director Jan De Bont. It manages to recreate one of natures most awe inspiring sights in astounding fashion. Not only that but it's a brilliant movie too! The plot follows tornado chasers played by Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as they pursue the deadly phenomenon. The reasoning behind their madness is so that they can launch Dorothy. Dorothy being the worlds first instrument pack for studying tornados. The problem is that to launch Dorothy they have to get it in the twister damage path so that it gets sucked up into the funnel. The makes for some really interesting scenes involving getting very close to the ...  Read the complete review

Twister (DVD): wow a Storm is coming! (462 words)

First of all, anyone who tells you they hated this movie simply did not give it a chance. People who can bring up all the little inconsistancies of the movie obviously spent more time looking for them than actually watching the film. I can safely say that some of the "impossibilities" in the film can actually have have actually happened before. Tornadoes are a scientific anomoly that we don't know everything about. The plot is rather unique, considering no other movie has ever featured tornadoes as the main attraction. A group of rag-tag storm chasers roams across the plains Oklahoma is search of tornadoes in an effort to study them, hoping to develop an ...  Read the complete review
