Dodger (Peter Sellers), Jelly (David Lodge) and Lennie (Bernard Cribbins) are three inmates living it easy in prison, keeping below the radar of the easily fooled Governor (Maurice Denham) and bribing the jolly prison guard Jenkins (George Woodbridge) into allowing the trio a few luxuries to make paying time bearable. Only a couple of weeks from release, they are visited by the Vicar from their local town who is supposedly concerned about their rehabilitation, only it is in fact the tricky Soapy Stevens (Wilfrid Hyde-White) in disguise, the man that put them in jail in the first place, and he has an ambitious plan up his sleeve.
