Advantages: Grant, Easy to watch
Disadvantages: Hardly original, predictable
Two Weeks Notice, a film I had heard a bit about but not actually seen, that was until last night. Starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant as high up business men/lawyers in a film who seem to love and hate each other at the same time, it's a classic romcom with who appears to be the king of romcom (is Hugh Grant in any other type of film).
The film starts with Bullock and a group protesting against the demolition of certain buildings, when her community center is due to be knocked down she takes action against George Wade (Grant) who's first it is allowing it to go ahead, instead of agreeing to cease the demolition, Wade instead employs Lucy as the firms lawyer instead, working from the inside to give money to charities and communities worthy, she decideds to take the job, not knowing just how strenouous it might be...
The plot is normal, not exactly anything to shout home about, 2 people come together, boss and colleague, work so cloesley together they know each others quirks and end up annoying each other to breaking point, from here on in you don't really need me to tell anything else, the rest of the film kind of plays itself around that, and I certainly shan't say that I didn't see the ending coming...not the least predictable film in the world, but I guess most romcoms can only have one plot.
I thought this film, and especially Hugh Grant, were much funnier than I expected, Grant I had always seen and known to be the classic, love struck and a bit soppy British character, however, he plays a similarly goofy yet funnier character in this film, slightly less Notting Hill/4 Weddings-ish which is certainly not bad thing (despite them being quite good films), I wasn't expecting such a good performance from Grant and Bullock was her usual odd self, although she does seem largly limited in her role of characters, much like Hugh Grant for that matter.
The soundtrack isn't bad, again it has classic romcom pop from both sides of the atlantic, Big Yellow Taxi fits well in this film, being a favourite of mine however thats not hard to understand, I didn't get a chance to look at the special features although I can't imagine them being that great for this film, most romcom special features aren't any good.
Overall, it's a classic romcom, no difference in storyline to 50% of the others and from about the very first 10 minutes the film is fairly predictable, thats not to say it's a bad film, easy to watch, takes 2 hours out of your life to watch a bit of trash film and keep all worries out od your mind, everyone needs to do that one in a while.
Summary: Easy to watch
