Oliver Stone is a consistently good director and his themes for his movies are varied. This makes every film he makes intruiging before it is watched, this one had good reviews so I gave it a whirl. The story is set in the baking dessert area of USA, Sean Penn is the main star and when his car breaks down he is forced to turn off his route into a small town. He is about to have a very bad day. As the film progresses we learn that he has just lost 2 fingers to a loan shark because of money owed and he is desperatley trying to get to Las Vegas to pay the balance before he looses any other fingers. However he encounters problem after problem ... Read the complete review

A slick, quirky, spooky little film about a guy who breaks down in a moral-free zone.... I like this film and still do. It's Oliver Stone - normally more serious with his topics - taking some time out to be casually pessimistic. But the premise is also interesting: this guy has broken down because he's destined to go to hell ? It is kind of a hell of his own making, but the characters are all inflated in their stereotypes: their not quite believable, as if this town in the desert is full of demons; human demons....There are some great little moments that do not escape the Stone treatment, in a dark mood .... It is very black comedy. The camera ... Read the complete review

This is a peculiar film, and there is something that doesn't quite feel right about it. There is a film called Red Rock West starring Nic Cage which (released before U-turn) has a very similar story and is a much better film. So if you've seen Red rock west don't even bother with this one. Sean Penn is a mysterious stranger who brakes down in a small American town in the desert. He meets various yokels who provide all sorts of problems for him (Billy Bob Thornton is a mechanic who takes ages to fix his car, Joaquin Phoenix is a wild teenager who thinks Penn is after his girlfriend), and find that he is stuck in this nowhere town for a few more days ... The DVD is available and the quality is good,It is better to rent it but if you are a big fan of Oliver stone than you may wish to buy it, it's worth watching anyway. If you like fast paced action thrillers from a top director then you should watch this movie, especially if you are a fan of Oliver stone like me. This is a movie by Oliver Stone starring Sean Penn and Jeniffer Lopez, yes Jeniffer Lopez when she was not very famous. Personally I would watch any movie by oliver stone although i have to admit that this one is not as good as his other movies like JFK or Heaven and earth but still you can rest assure that you are not wasting your time. There is ... Read the complete review
