Advantages: Fight choreography
Disadvantages: Not a good film
Milla Jovovich has had success in starring in the film adaptation of the computer game Resident Evil, and here she tries her hand at a comic book adaptation in Ultraviolet.
The Plot
Set late in the 21st Century, the world has been exposed to a virus which, if it comes into contact with humans will turn them into Hemophages, vampirical beings who appear like humans but who are faster, stronger and more agile, but who are also far more dangerous and are considered abominations. Ultraviolet is a woman caught in the crossfire, affected by the virus but not controlled by it. She finds herself protecting a boy who has been marked for death by the government due to contamination, and has to fight the government and the forces that run it.
Cast and Performances
There is not much of a famous cast to mention, and, to be honest, it is hardly worth mentioning those who are in it. Milla Jovovich is Ultraviolet, the woman caught in the crossfire, and William Fichtner as Garth does what he can with a dire script. The supporting cast holds no stars in the making, and there is a serious lack of character development. The writers and director Kurt Wimmer have not managed to make a good film here, unfortunately.
My Opinion
The one saving grace of the film is the fighting choreography. While it goes nowhere near to saving the film from a 1 star rating, it is done very well, and it is entertaining. Indeed, if the 88 minutes of the film were entirely fighting, I may be persuaded to up it to 2 stars.
As I'm sure you can gather, this is not one of my favourite films. I bought the DVD, but am regretting this now, and only still have it because I have failed in my attempts to sell it!
Conclusion
Disappointing adaptation.
The DVD (if you REALLY want to buy it) is available from amazon.co.uk for £4.98 new.

Thanks for reading.
Summary: Ultraviolet (2006): shan't be watching that again!
