This is a quiet, very French film about a subtle kind of unhappiness. Maxime and Stephane are violin restorers, working together at the highest level. Maxime plans to marry the almost impossibly beautiful Camille (Emmanuel Beart), a gifted young soloist beginning to make her way in the world of concerts and recordings. Then she is distracted by the strange magnetism of the younger Stephane (Daniel Auteuil) and becomes obsessed by him. But Stephane, though attracted to her, is unable to love her and tells her so. French film-making at its best! Not at all boring, this is a refined, restrained movie about 3 characters and the complex emotions that surface within each as a result - or despite of - their respect and affection for one another. Each of the characters are brilliantly played, with the windows for their emotions to emerge small considering their busy, everyday and refined lives where work and professionalism is necessary. Stephane repairs violins with his business colleague Maxim, and Camille - a top musician, appears on the scene.
