Under Siege 2 (DVD) ... ... / DVD released 25 October, 1999 at Warner Home Video / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / The success ofUnder Siege made a sequel mandatory according to Hollywood's rules of maximum revenue, and as sequels go, this one's not half bad. Steven Seagal returns as former Navy SEAL and skilled chef Casey Ryback, who's trying to spend quality time with his niece on a cross-country train trip. But as luck and action-movie formulas would have it, the train has been hijacked by a demented genius (Eric Bogosian) who is using the train as a moving platform to seize computerised control of a top-secret U.S. satellite that is capable of causing earthquakes from space. Seagal has to stop the train or the villain (whichever comes first), and the action is fast and furious on its way to a high-speed climax. He's not as wacky as Tommy Lee Jones in the first Under Siege, but Bogosian has got a delirious quality that serves the comic-book plot, and action fans get more than their fill of dazzling stunts and special effects. --Jeff Shannon

... was hoping it would live up to the first one and while it's maybe not quite as good, it's another classic Seagal movie. This film see's Seagal link up with Geoff Murphy who had previously directed the sequel to Young Guns. It's fair to say that the special effects on the whole are a little bit dodgy. The scene's onboard the train are fine but as soon as the action moves out of the train it seems to have stretched the budget and ability of the director a little. While this is an enjoyable movie and the fight sce...more

Having left the Navy Kasey Ryback has opted for a more relaxed life running a restaurant. When it comes to escorting his niece Sarah to her parents grave his relaxed life gets disturbed when their train is hijacked by terrorists. They are after a Government satellite and the two main operators are onboard this train. It falls to Ryback to save the lives of not only his niece and those on the train but also the inhabitants of 2 US cities targeted for disaster. Can this lowly cook follow up his heroics on the U.S.S. Missouri or will Dark Territory be a step too far for Ryback. Now we all have our little guilty pleasures and one of mine for as long as I can ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Flappy open handed whispering martial arts legend... (303 words)

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory is a 1995 action film set on board a train traveling through the Rocky Mountains from Denver to Los Angeles. It is, like many Seagal, Van Dame, Snipes movies - on television way to much for the amount we pay the bbc for annual license. It is however one of those films you are obliged to watch if it is on. I would not call it a classic but is entertaining if only for the fact that the plot is in essence exactly the same as the first Under Siege film, albeit the boat has been replaced for a train and the 60's relic soldier of fortune character has been substituted by psychotic computer geek. Unless I have been fooled in some way by ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Under Siege 2 (DVD): Die Hard on a Train? (163 words)

As much as I wanted to like this film, I just can't. One thing about a Seagal film is that (usually) he brings his extensive martial arts knowledge to the proceedings so that the fight scenes look good if nothing else. However this is not the case with US2. Plus, once again we are short changed with the Region 2 releases against Region 1. In the UK we have 'scene selection'. Woo hoo! In the US they have both widescreen and 4:3 formats, cast and production notes plus a whopping eight trailers for all Seagals other movies from Nico to Glimmer Man (with the exception of Marked for Death). Not only that, there is over two minutes of cuts from the R2 release ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hang on.. I've seen this somewhere before! (142 words)

It's a pretty standard Seagal movie, although it does have a number of good points to reccomend it! It's funny in places, and there's some good characters along the way, epecially the madman who is trying to destroy the pentagon, after staging his own death to avoid the government. The weapon of mass distruction is a laser capable of causing earthquakes, which is mounted on a satellite orbiting the earth. This is then taken control of by hte madan, and moved into a different orbit, and then obscured by lots of false echos on the government system. It also stars a young Katherine Heigl, of Roswell High fame, and she is looking particularly ...  Read the complete review
