Advantages: gorgeous-looking scenes, All the supporting cast are great

Disadvantages: ?

It?s been a long time since a film was made which relied so heavily on such an intense, adversarial relationship between two people. Actually it?s not been all that long, since this is a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake?but it appears to be the best of them.

The two protagonists, who between them support the entire weight of the film, are Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman. Both are getting on a bit, both have been in every kind of film going, both have had decades of experience and knowledge with which to hone their skills and their talents. So it?s a pity that their roles complement each other so well, really, instead of going directly head-to-head.

Freeman is a police officer in Puerto Rico, investigating the case of two murder/rapes of 13 year-old girls. Hackman is a very rich lawyer, who, through various methods, becomes the prime suspect for the killings.

And Freeman has to crack the truth out of him.

And, basically, that?s about it. The settings make for some gorgeous-looking scenes, and the feel of the film is lavish and sumptuous and involving. All the supporting cast are great, but, of course, the only thing that could possibly matter is the quality of the leads, and they do not disappoint in the slightest. Both characters are complex and intriguing, and both are whittled down to the bone by the fearsome confrontations that they put each other through.

And after that, all the flashbacks and sub-plots and twists seem to be somewhat unnecessary. But, overall, the director has now officially redeemed himself for Lost In Space.
