Advantages: Good acting, right run time
Disadvantages: stroyline is weak
This film doesn't aim at being anything other than an end to end action film which it achieves with some credability. However it leaves you wanting more....more substance, more depth to the storyline and characters.
The title pretty much says it all. There is an unstoppable train. The circumstances in which the train becomes unstoppable is slightly laughable but the storyline isn't the main aim of this film. I'm a huge fan of Denzel Washington and Chris Pine is a good actor but you finish watching the film wishing you'd seen more of them.
After narrowly missing the oncoming unmanned train (which is carrying plenty of toxic material to blow up a city) they then decide to chase after it in a bid to stop it crashing into their home city. One of the main statements within the theatrical trailer for this film is that the train is on a head on collision with a train full of school children. However, I feel that this was completely oveer looked in the film and much more could have been made of this scenario which would have provided a greater storyline, more tension and thrill for the audience.
The length of the film is just about right at 100 minutes. It keeps your attention throughout and it certainly feels good value for money. The action sequences are constructed and carried out with great effect and make sure you don't take your eyes off the screen.
If you expect more than just action then you may be left feeling disappointed, if you just expect action then you can expect a great film and a brilliant way to spend 100 minutes of your life.
Summary: Good action film
