Untraceable.

Untraceable is a 2008, crime thriller starring Diane Lane, the film was directed by Gregory Hoblit and distributed by Screen Gems. I was a small fan of this film, as it was quite unique in its storyline, it had a semi decent cast, had a large amount of violence, and it was a film that I could actually watch, without being lost in the plot.

The film is set in Portland, Oregan and follows a serial killer who rigs and creates well planned death traps and devices that kill its victims, based on the number of website hits his webpage receives. The more websites the website received the quicker the person dies, and the more painful it becomes.
Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) plays a widowed FBI agent, who works for the cybercrime division. Her jobs evolves catching identify thieves and hackers trying to infiltrate computer systems, make illegal money and anything else related with computers, websites and so forth.
One night her character receives a tip about a website called www.killwithme.com. When she first visits the site, it shows a live video streaming of a kitten being tortured and killed online.

After the first death of a kitten, the serial killer soon starts using human victims as its Ginny pigs. Soon the film starts to pick up with a fast paced, action, thriller theme. The victims of this sadistic serial killer will one by one die accordingly to how many hits his website receives. The public are warned that too much traffic on the webpage will encourage the deaths; however fascination about the subject soon leads to millions visiting the sites, and one by one the victims dying, in the cruellest of ways. Can the FBI agent help save the victims, are these victims linked to one another, and who will be next in the cruel game of show and tell.

I was actually a fan of this film, having seen the saw, I first thought this had the same premise, in the sense that the victims don't actually die by the hands of the killer, it's more a case of them dying by either someone else of by a cruel method. The film had a new fresh storyline; I don't actually think a film has been done in a way in which the killer kills people according to how many hits the website receives. It's a plot, that also relates to so many people in the modern world, for instance the videos of deaths and victims being tortured and killed on websites fascinates so many people around the world that they log onto the internet to watch it. This film takes this basic principle and just explodes it ten folds.
I don't think the film was that popular with the critics and most of the general public, but I was quite a fan of it, Diane Lane is a great actress, who has played some great roles, but this film shows more of a dark side of her, she needs and almost has a compulsion to catch this sadistic killer, before someone else gets hurt.

There are no other notable characters in the film other than the serial killer himself, but it would be foolish for me to give any info on him, as for me it would ruin the background plot, who he is, what motivates him and so on.

Overall a film that would actually watch again, its fast paced, and has a combination of both action and thriller, which I feel go really well hand in hand. It's got a great plot, which doesn't die away, and the whole focus of the film is on the website. It's worth a watch.
