When I was in Los Angeles in June, Up was the brand new movie there. One day we went to a theatre to see the film in 3-D and because it was new and we just went in cause we were bored I didn't know what to expect. What I found was the most heart warming film I had seen in a very long time. Even now quite a few months later and it has only just come out in the UK, I can still remember every bit of it and here is why.
The story is an extremely sweet one. Carl meets Ellie and immediately they love each other. They begin as friends and that slowly turns into a lifetime of love for them both. They always have a dream to get their house above a waterfall so when Carl learns that his he is going to have the house taken away from him, he ties up lots of helium balloons to the house which lifts it from the ground as he goes on the search for his dream. Along the way is Russell a boy scout who gets taken up by the house and joins Carl on his journey.
Now the story is a lot more heart warming than that but if I told you anymore I would spoil it for you. It is beautiful from beginning to end and you are sucked into the pure magic of it straight away. The Pixar films are always fabulous but this one has a very human feel for it even though the subject matter of taking a house in the air by helium balloons seems a bit crazy it fits perfectly with the feel of the film.
The special effects are fab in this film just as everybody has come to expect from Pixar now. It is pure perfection to watch and I cannot fault it at all. It is the most colourful movie and has so many fun effects and they have really pushed their computers to the maximum to make the dogs and birds and everything look like you can reach out and took it. I have to say in 3-D the film effects are even more fabulous so if you get chance go and see it in 3-D.
Character wise and you will fall in love with all of them. Carl is the grumpiest person in the world but that makes him the most fabulous. Russell is hilarious and again is one that you fall in love with and cant wait for him to come on the screen again. Then you have the talking dogs which is great fun and you fall in love with them and then a beautiful bird who is fab. Honestly I could harp on all day about the sweetness and gentleness of all of the characters and it is the human nature part that makes them even better.
The voices are all done by relatively unknown people apart from Christopher Plummer. They all fit perfectly and sometimes I find it better to watch a cartoon type film when I don't recognise the voices as I tend to picture the actors.
The film lasts for about an hour and a half and like I said before it should be showing by you in 3-D which is good. It is a film which is suitable for all and I think that everybody of any age will love everything about this film. It is at cinemas now.
In conclusion I will give this wonderful film 5 stars as I honestly cannot pick one bad thing about it. Myself and Dave loved every minute and I would quite happily sit through it again. It will definitely be an addition to my DVD collection and I honestly think it is the most warm film I have seen in a long time. It is that enjoyable!
Thanks for reading.
