Premium Review Uptown Girls (DVD): Rubbish (295 words)
by - written on 28/10/09 (Very useful, 1 readings)
Rating:

Like the overdone buddy cop action film genre, the "fish out of water" comedy rarely works overly well, and too often resorts to genre cliches that have long become tired and tiresome. Uptown Girls is such a film; it is contended to adhere to these stereotypes without bringing anything new to the table, despite two decent lead cast members. Molly Gunn (Brittany Murphy) is a spoiled 22-year old brat, who lives off of the royalties of her now dead rock star father, who has few responsibilities and is thoroughly dislikeable from the outset, and not the charming dunce the writers assumingly want her to be. However, when she finds out that her accountant ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review From Childhood to Adulthood (899 words)

For me, Uptown Girls was a sad disappointment from the start to the very end. I usually am not quick to judge a film so harshly because there are certain elements that do seem to please me in every film but I would say that this one was a complete, utter mess in so many ways. For starters, I did not like the strange blend of harsh realism with deep emotional insecurities and conflicts that the producers tried to depict through Brittany Murphy. It clashed horrible with the weak attempts at humor and romantic undertones. I would say that the only element that I appreciated in the film was the acting of Dakora Fanning who was simply marvellous in the role of bossy ...  Read the complete review

I bought this DVD a good few years ago when I saw it in a shop after seeing Just Married which stars Brittany Murphey...who is the star of this film too, and loving her acting. So I snapped it up despite never hearing of it before!!! It turned out to be a great buy as Uptown Girls is an amazing film which I love!!!!!!!!!! The film is about a young woman, in her early 20's, Molly Gunn played by Brittany Murphey. Molly is the daughter of dead rocker parents who died when Molly was very young in a plane crash. Ever since Molly has lived off her inheritance, never working or giving a care in the world. Her bills are paid from a bank account whcih is in ...  Read the complete review

Uptown girls is about a young women, Molly, who is used to spending ££ of her fathers money, basically a spoilt little rich girl, however this all changes when Molly is required to get a job! She becomes the nanny to a extremely gown up little girl called Ray (Dakota Fanning). The little girl is extremely mature and very clean, where as Molly is care-free and lives for the moment, not the best combination! The story is about the funny clashes they have and they each teach each other, to take more responsibility and to enjoy been a child. This movie is very sweet watching the characters grow and has a bit of a love story in it too! i founf the movie very ...  Read the complete review
