... cute but not cute enough to get by on his looks alone to make his role in this film noteworthy! The female leads (most of whom get bumped off one at a time) are all pretty and cute but acting skills are not their forte as far as I'm concerned. Not a one of them impressed but I guess this isn't the sort of film that people would get Oscar nominations for. As far as I'm aware the film only won one award which was for Best Voice Over, a Golden Trailer award in 2001. The film was directed by Jamie Blanks and adapted from...more

Premium Review Valentine (DVD): "Will you dance with me?" (1070 words)
by - written on 28/01/02 (Very useful, 151 readings)
Rating:

I almost killed myself after watching the first ten minutes of this film. I couldn't believe I'd got my sister to steal a schlock slasher horror film from her work. There is nothing more boring than yet another film where a guy in all black with a mask and a knife goes around killing young, attractive women (and the odd man). Luckily I was too lazy to get up, and the film improved massively as it went on. David Boreanaz leads a cast of mostly TV stars in a surprisingly intelligent & twisted film. Denise Richards is the ringleader of a group of girlfriends who, like most Americans, have a vastly inflated self-image and play with men like they are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Stuck in a Moment (696 words)

Rating:

If I am being honest I expected very little from “Valentine”. It had been slated by most of the people I had spoken to and appeared to be yet another film trying to ride the coattails of the Scream series. I was pleasantly surprised in some respects but I can see why other people would have been disappointed. The film opens at a high school dance where an unpopular nerdy character is approaching the best looking girls in his class to dance with him. He is subjected to humiliating refusals and ends up being attacked at the end of the opening scene which was fairly similar to “Carrie”. The film picks up the story a few years in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Valentine (DVD): A Contender For Worst Movie Of 2001 (860 words)
by - written on 01/10/01 (Very useful, 37 readings)
Rating:

Of course, what the world needs right now is another slasher movie. We haven't had nearly enough since Halloween first hit the screens over 20 years ago. Of course recent movies such as Scream and I Know What you Did Last Summer, have totally revived the horror genre which has been feeling a little stale before then. Thank God for movies like these. Of course I am being sarcastic as I think both I, and everyone else, is pretty much sick of this type of rubbish - especially when it consists of cheap cash-ins on the glories of other more talented directors, and scriptwriters and offers nothing new and basically stinks from start to finish. We are basically ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review too many breasts, too few brains (484 words)

There's not much to be said about the horror genre. Okay, so it was fun in the '70s and '80s, but then it died down (thank God!). But then along came "Scream," which totally revolutionized the entire genre. And then along came the various sequels as well as several copycats, as was the case back then. "Valentine" is the latest. Hey, remember that kid that everyone was mean to and ignored back in school? Yeah, we all know the type. Anyway, in this film, we are introduced to a group of young, buxom women who also knew the type. They consist of Paige (Denise Richards), Kate (Marley Shelton), Dorothy (Jessica Capshaw), and Lily (Jessica ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Valentine (DVD): Will you dance with me? (635 words)

I went to the Cinema to see The Hole, we would have seen Valentine but one of my friends said she doesn't like scary movies. We got to the ticket desk and were told that the Hole was broken. Valentine it was. After a little persuading and reassuramce we sat down to watch the film. The story is about 5 friends, Kate, Dorothy, Paige, Lily amd Shelly. 13 years previous they humiliated a Geek at a school dance. 4 of them refused to dance with him when he asked, the 5th girl, Dorothy said yes and they ended up making out behind the gym seating. When spotted by some boys, she said that he attacked her, the boys beat him up and he was sent off to reform school. As ...  Read the complete review
