Intro
------
Valkyrie is a film which retells to some historical accuracy, the story of how some men, attempted to kill Hitler, during the second world war.

The film is almost historically accurate, obviously allowing for some poetic licence, but it is more or less true, which obviously has both its ups and downs, which i will describe later.

Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise. I have always been a big fan of his, really enjoying films such as mission impossible. Although he is slightly odd with his ramblings on scientology and things, as an actor he is faultless.


Storyline
-----------
The storyline plots through the rise of Colonel Von Stauffenberg and the eventual unhappiness and discontent at the way that the war is going. He, and a group of other men, come up with a plan which will kill Hitler while he is at his base.

Eventually, you get to the actual point of where the bomb goes off, and Hitler is shielded by the table, as really occurred in real life. This scene is very dramatic and also very entertaining.


Benefits of true story
--------------------------
The main benefit of retelling a true story is that people who enjoy history, or even remeniscing about the glorious war, can enjoy the film even more. The public like things that they have knowledge about, and something which can inform them more on a subject, is always going to help.


Disadvantages
------------------
Unfortunately, the one disadvantage of this is that you know exactly what is going to happen. As a history student, i have studied this period on a number of occasions. Thus i knew the ending, and obviously everyone else also realises, that Stauffenberg did not succeed.

The other down point about the film is that Tom Cruise does not attempt a German accent, which does take away some of the realism from the film.


Summary
-----------
A good film accurately retelling operation Valkyrie. However, it could be better at the same time.
