Kyuketsuki Miyu or Vampire Princess Miyu is a rather dark series about a young vampire named Miyu who has the unwelcome job as Guardian of Japan. As a Guardian, her duty is to return all the stray god-demons, or Shinma, that walk the earth and return them to the Dark World (the Darkness). Being Shinma herself, this means that fate has placed a geas upon her to ct against her own kind without sympathy, as the rule is absolute, ALL stray Shinma must be sent. Himiko, a medium is asked to investigate supernatural killings which have occured in the city. She found out that 2 powerful forces were fighting, the Shinma (Demon Gods) and a young vampire in particular named Miyu and her familiar, Larva. The animation is superb and the story is well written although this anime may not be ... Read the complete review

Good horror titles are an unfortunate rarity in anime. Most "horror" titles like Demon City Shinjuku or Vampire Hunter D rely too heavily on saturating the viewer with gore and violence. However, there are still the occasional gems like Vampire Princess Miyu which prove that you don't need gallons of blood or big, nasty beasts to evoke some chills. One thing Vampire Princess Miyu excels at is atmosphere. The art is deliberately dulled slightly, with wonderful uses of shading. Scenery was equally captivating, with some sinister shapes taking twisted, human-like forms. Beautiful stuff. Even city scenes felt slightly ominous and not quite ... Read the complete review
