Crowned Review Vicky Cristina Barcelona (DVD): Lewd and Lurid in Barcelona (1384 words)

If you remember in 2007 we saw Javier Bardam, a ferocious villain, wearing a bad haircut, roaming destructively around the county of Texas in the film 'No Country for Old Men.' He played the role of one of the most frightening men in the history of film. In Woody Allen's new comedy, 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Bardam has a new hairstyle and is wearing some trendy and very stylish shirts but I still find it difficult to blot out the vision of that indelible and formidable performance. Even in Allen's new film, Javier is still playing a rogue. His good Latin looks are impressive but this time he is even more scary. He plays the role of Juan Antonio, a ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The Spanish Way (742 words)

Having seen the trailer for this Vicky Cristina Barcelona in the cinema I decided to give it a go. I have watched Woody Allen movies in the past and found them fairly hit and miss with me, and unfortunately more miss than hit. The cast was interesting and it sounded like there was a good plot, so time to dip my toe back into the Woody movie pool again Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) go to Barcelona for the summer. Vicky is settled with the man of her dreams which is what she has always wanted and is studying Catalan culture, hence the trip to Barca prior to her wedding to stay with family friends. Cristina had just finished making ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Vicky Cristina Barcelona (DVD): Get your love on (375 words)

Rating:

Vicky Cristina Barcelon is a Woody Allen directed film and a pretty entertaining one at that. The highly thought of Javier Bardem stars opposite Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson is an enjoyable film that managed to hold my attention but also lacked a certain spark that would lead me to give it more than three Dooyoo stars. The film certainly does have its humourous moments as you would expect with a Woody Allen comedy but it left me feeling like there could have been more smiles in it. Bardem plays Juan a virile Latin stud who has a long list of romantic conquests ad often keeps a number of women on the go at any one time, however he also has a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review To Love or Not to Love? (1287 words)
by - written on 02/11/09 (Very useful, 29 readings)
Rating:

This 2008 film, written and directed by Woody Allen arrived from lovefilm at the weekend and so I finally got to see it. I had been waiting for an opportunity to do so for ages as this was a film I had heard a lot about, ranging from gushing praise to bitter disappointment, I was determined to make my own mind up. I have to say that in our household it divided opinions, I found it enjoyable, charming and a feast for the eyes but my other half said it was a pointless and boring film. Plot ==== Vicky and Cristina are two young women who travel to Barcelona for the summer to stay with some relatives. Vicky is studying for a ...  Read the complete review
