I am a massive fan of James McAvoy and tend to watch every single film he is in which is why I went to see Wanted at the cinema. It looked great and a bit of an action flick and knowing it was based on a comic book was even better. Now I haven't read the comics so I can't compare the two but the film is brilliant and basically so much fun to watch I don't see how anybody would hate it and here is why.
The film story is a bit crazy so here it goes. Wes is a guy who has nothing right in his life and just goes about his day to day business as a kind of nobody. His girlfriend is cheating on him with his best mate, his boss hates him and his flat seems like it is falling apart. On top of this he suffers from panic attacks. So one day when he is feeling particularly low, he meets Fox.
Fox is an assassin and tells him stories about his father and also about his true destiny. He belongs to a fraternity of assassins who weave to find out bad guys (it sort of makes sense when you watch the film). Wes must decide if he wants this new life even though the thought of it scares him.
The story is so much fun and you can tell it is based on a really crazy comic book. They have made the film so that the second it starts you are thrown into this crazy world of action and it is so spectacular that from the first few minutes you are captivated. From this second till the end the pace does not give up at all so it is absolutely action packed till the end which is fabulously satisfying.
It all makes sense when you watch the film but don't expect a completely tight story line as this one does go off on one and you have to put story holes to the back of your mind as there is a couple but it is good fun. I think the story follows through nicely and they have portrayed it very nicely on the screen. The script is very witty and will have you laughing out loud and you just watch the film with a big smile on your face as it is fun.
One thing this film has lots of and does extremely well is special effects and they are fantastic. The first few minutes has a lot of them and it sets the pace for the film. It is a comic book adaptation and it is about assassins who can do all sorts of strange things like slow down time and bend bullets so they are spectacular. These carry on throughout and the budget must have been crazy on these so you will not be disappointed in that respect as they are great!!!
Characters in this film are very memorable in the terms that they are so much fun to watch. You see the Wes character develop so much so you can understand why he acts certain ways and what is going through his head. He is brilliant. My other favourite is Fox who is a lot of fun and as she takes Wes under her wing she is just so cool and oozes brilliance. It is these two characters that you will remember long after the film has finished.
The other character is Sloan who one of the main people and is good fun. He is one of those you love to love and hate at the same time and he is so much fun. I know I am saying that a lot but they are all so much fun!!!
Actor wise and James McAvoy really stands out here as it is his first really big action role in a massive film and he does so well!!! He can play any character and make it his own and you will fall in love with him while watching this. Angelina Jolie is fabulous and Morgan Freeman too. Everybody in this film is well cast and suits their characters down to the ground are extremely memorable.
The film is a certificate 18 which is completely right as there are some quite gory scenes in the film. It goes on for just under 2 hours which is not long enough as I loved it.
In conclusion this is a fun and crazy film to watch and if you ignore the plot holes it has you will enjoy it. I thought terms f story line it is a bit out there but just go along with it and acting wise it is fantastic. I am going to give it five stars as I loved it and will be adding it to my DVD collection.
Thanks for reading.
