Advantages: Refreshing, clean, Jennifer Lopez!!
Disadvantages: If it wasn't for her...
I heard a whisper that the press were ‘enthusiastic’ about this movie. Could this be a con, I thought? My first vision of Jennifer Lopez as an actor was a risky thought. Lets face it she can sing, she can dance, and surely she can’t be great at everything? Fact is she can be proud to be the lead in this ‘clean as a whistle’ romantic comedy that certainly produces a smile if not a laugh or two. At first we see her acting a corporate ‘professional’ style, then we she a sense of what she may be really like herself. It’s almost as if she is a natural at this acting lark, and pretty flawless at that! The film is refreshing. No swearing or gratuitous garbage here folks. They don’t marry like this anymore either. Unbelievable as it is, we find ourselves wanting to be inspired by the romantic nature of the story here. Background music is good, occasional as it is. I would have liked to have ‘felt’ more here. Lopez undoubtedly makes the movie. She seems to have done something different here and she’s done it very well indeed. Romance with no sex! Tell me, Jennifer, can you cook as well? STOP PRESS: Just had I barely hinted about the press giving this movie ‘enthusiastic reviews’, it seems the exact opposite has occurred in The Mail on Sunday. In an article entitled ‘Lopez hits rock bottom’, I could hardly believe what I saw! The Wedding planner is given an extremely ‘dire’ rating in the ‘films of the week’ column. Had I had seen this review; I almost certainly would not had even given Lopez a chance. Don’t listen to the press folks. Without naming and shaming the reviewer here, it just goes to show that selling papers is more important than our real interests. It just makes me praise the movie even more. It’s certainly not dire and the Lopez
bottom does get a look in. I’m surprised in fact, that she even allowed it!

- 12/04/01 I think a trip to the pictures is in order. Sounds like my kinda film! |

- 07/04/01 It is a bit fluffy- this is actually the word I was looking for! I think Lopez could have added a bit more identity, like specifically writing a musical score perhaps, but I do admire her for what she's already done. |

- 07/04/01 looks the usual hollywood fluff. I'll wait for video |
