Water directed by Deepa mehta is one of the controversial movies in Indian Cinema, Shabana Azmi & Akshay Kumar were suppose to do this movie orginally & Shabana did shaved her head for this movie but the movie didnt took off due to political reasons, and later it was made by casting John Abraham & Seema Biswas.

Story Plot :
This movie is about the Post Independence Era of India during the British Rule, it revolves around social Issues like child Marriage, Widow Re-marriage, etc. Well In those time there was a law that if your husband dies then the widow either gets burn alive with in the pyre of her husband, marry the younger brother of Husband or lead a self-retraint life until Death. So there is this child marriage of Chuiya and her husband dies, so she is forced to shave off here head and live a self-restraint life in an Ashram(place meant for widows like her).

This Ashram is headed by Madhumati, over here are Shakuntala, kalyani. with whom this little girl forns a good bond. every widow in the ashram has their head shaved but only Kalyani is allowed to keep her hairs as she is beautifull so she is able to obtain funds for the ashram. Narayan lives in the same village & he is a follower of Gandhiji, but he fells in love with Kalyani. His mother waheeda rahman is agianst it but he goes against her wish. So from here it is all together different turn to the story which you have to find out by watching it. And i'm sure you all will like it.
My Say:
This is a well made movie and it needs to be watched atleast once, it gives you a clear idea of the society of that Era and what use to happenned with these social issues. the climax of this movie is really good, the whole movie grabs you till the end, which is what i like about this movie.
Deepa Mehta as a director has done a very good job, John has done full justice to his part in the film. Lisa ray has done a very good job and shows that she has got the potential in her. Seema biswas is splendid with her role, she als oshaves off her head for this role.
But the roles to watch out for is of Manorama & Sarala. Manaroma a vamp from earlier indian cinema has done a very good job, the way she commands everyone, etc is really good.
But the child artsist Sarala is just brilliant you will find less child artist like her, she has done a splendid job to this role, the way she has inacted you will just fall for her innosence.

Overall i film that gives you an ides about these issues at that time.
I would refer you all to watch this movie.
