Wayne's World is a wild and hilarious film that spawned from the successful skit on Saturday Night Live. With iconic performances, great music, and a rowdy sense of silliness, this is a comedy classic from the 90s and extremely rewatchable.
Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) are best friends and also co-hosts of a public access TV show titled Wayne's World, which appeals to teenagers and skewers everything from pop culture to corporate big-wigs. However, when Benjamin Kane (Lowe), a television executive, catches wind of the show, he decides to attempt to buy it up and exploit it, making himself millions in the process by putting the show through a crude corporate commercial wringer.
This film isn't just an amusing look at the heavy metal crowd, thanks to endearing performances by Carvey and Myers, but it's also a rousing observation of corporate greed and the notion of "selling out", and how big media conglomerates bastardise creativity and prefer things to roll out on a conveyerbelt. It's a refreshing comedy that's very clever, and also quirky and offbeat - it's also got fantastic music that's sure to please any metalhead. There are also some excellent pop culture references, such as Robert Patrick reprising his role as the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Tia Carrere is also absolutely gorgeous as Wayne's rocker girlfriend Cassandra, who ranks rather high on the schwiiiing scale that the film invents.
A hilarious (and thanks to the Bohemnian Rhapsody scene, now iconic) and witty comedy that every teenager should love, regardless of your taste in music, although you might prefer it if you enjoy heavy metal and rock music. Myers and Carvey are equally excellent in what is one of the best comedies of all time.
Summary: A winning oddball comedy
