Advantages: Hilarious, well chosen lead roles
Disadvantages: Audience must be able to laugh at different types of humour
Now as a divorce mediator, such as Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) or John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) the pressures of handling other peoples problems will sometimes get to you. You are advised to take up a hobby as a means of relaxing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle by blowing off some steam. And what a better/more ironic way to do this than by spending your spare time crashing wedddings.
For those who are not familiar to the term, crashing a wedding involves catching females at their most emotional moment in order to win their hearts. However, in the eyes of John and Jeremy, this involves:
-creating a hilarious personal history (such as ' owning an upcoming maple syrup conglomerate')
-studying the 'subjects' family tree (so they can distance themselves from the family by not being blood related)
-acting like the ideal man while a girl is watching (whether it's dancing with the flowergirl or making kids balloon animals/bikes)
-and using these to walk into the opening of a girls heart, getting some action, and leaving without even closing the door.
The concept technically seems a little harsh, but as we get to learn and love these characters, we end up hoping that they succeed, as their innocence is shown in a new way by some excellent care-free acting.
Christopher Walken makes an appearence as U.S. Treasury Secretary William Cleary, the father of the upper-class family that our two crashers are sucked into. Wilson is intent on creating a proper relationship with the daughter that he meets, and Vaughn is held to him by the decree of some hilarious crasher rules (in this example the rule "Never leave a fellow crasher behind").
Antics ensue as John begins an escapade to steal the girl from her husband-to-be Zachary 'Sack' Lodge, a real family favourite of Mr Cleary but also a total jerk.
As our two leaders drift apart, Jeremy conducts a peculiar yet sweet relationship with another and less stable daughter, and John seeks the help of a professional crasher (an outstanding Will Ferrell).
The quirks of this satire are endless, and you will be caught laughing every step of the way. Lose yourself and enjoy.
Summary: Great in-your-face comedy, if you like that kinda thing
