Advantages: Still got a great cast and some good story lines - I love Doug!

Disadvantages: Not as funny anymore, too serious

If you don't know the story behind Weeds yet, you're probably best off looking at reviews of "Weeds" or "Weeds - Series 1" first, although it's possible to start off by watching Series 4 and may be interesting in its own right, it's definitely not as interesting as watching the series from the beginning would prove as you will have failed to see the reason why they are the Botwin family are in the situation they are in.

Following the fire at the end of Season 3, Agrestic is no longer the place of living for The Botwin family but Nancy ups sticks and moves to the San Diego area by the beach and near the border with Mexico, in order to work with Guillermo's drug cartel. It's still Weeds, so it's still humorous - especially when it comes to Doug's relationship with a Honduran and his and Andy's humorous attempts at smuggling over illegals. However there's a notably more serious side to it, even Andy has taken on a much more maturer role and isn't his former funny man self.

Celia also seems to have completely lost the plot and I find her irritating rather than amusing, I'm not overly keen on Sanjay's new partner, although little Shane Botwin and his funny girlfriends do tend to be rather amusing and Lisa, the cheese shop owning neighbour is a reasonable addition too.

The storylines are a bit too far fetched by this point, in the early series Nancy does things that might not make sense but are understandable, however here she just makes the wrong decision when the right one is obvious, I don't like the smarmy Mexican mayor and it all seems a bit heavy for what was at one point a very light-hearted series. I love Weeds but Series 4 despite having its moments of merryness, leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth - I hope that Season 5 (which has just started incidentally) - gets back on track.

Summary: Hopefully Series 5 will bring it bck to turgid town!
