Advantages: I liked the comedy-style, great performances, especially the lead

Disadvantages: Not for everyone

Weeds has a somewhat strange plot which doesn't sound overly appealing but may surpass your expectations, as it did with me. Nancy Botwin (Sarah louise Parker) finds herself in a difficult situation as a recently widowed mother of two in financial trouble, living in the costly suburbs.

Her solution to the problem is dealing pot to the locals of Agrestic, which leads to equally gritty and hilarious scenes, through very well written dialogue that doesn't take itself too seriously.

As well as her newly formed business, Nancy is coping with her enthusiastic neighbours, two sons and Andy Botwin her Brother-In-Law who brings a lot of comedy to the show with his friend Doug. There isn't really a performance that I don't like from the cast and the clever writing gives each episode a dark and witty overtone.

I found this a lot more entertaining than other recent US shows but there weren't really any stand-out episodes. It seems more like one huge episode, split into the ten episodes that you see. Whether this is a disadvantage, I'll let you decide. You can pick the set up for around £10 which is reasonable seeing as the runtime for the season isn't that high (around 300 minutes).

7/10

Summary: Worth a look
