Advantages: THE JUNGLE

Disadvantages: ORDINARY PLOT

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is an action and adventure film directed by Peter Berg.

The film centres around Dwayne Johnson's character Beck who is ordered by his boss to bring his son Travis played by Sean William Scott back from the Amazon jungle. Beck agrees to this as long as his boss promises him this is his last mission.
On arrival at El Dorado Beck meets Travis in a bar and gets into a scrap before capturing him. The two have a bad start to their relationship though Travis pleads with Beck to let him stay as their is trouble in the community. A man named Hatcher played by Christhopher Walken owns the town and forces everyone to work for him. Travis says if the two work together and find an antique then Hatcher would have to relinquish control. However Beck and Travis are caught by a tribal group who make them suffer until they relise they have the same goal.
From here the two groups join forces to find the antique and bring down Hatcher with fights and lots of explosions along the way.

There is good chemistry in the movie between Johnson and Scott although their acting isn't the greatest. Walken seems to be strolling through his role and not putting much effort into it.

The jungle is the star with the scenery breathtaking and feeling like it is part of the movie.

The special effects towards the finale are great with some of the explosions looking spectacular. There is some good fight scenes and lots of exciting chases.

The plot is okay though nothing special and the dialogue tries too hard especially the humour which isn't that funny. The only real laughs are the scenes with the monkey.

Arnold Schwarzenegger makes a cameo at the beginning, but if you blink you will miss it.

The DVD extras include a commentary, deleted scenes and a featurette.

Lasting around 90 minutes with a 15 viewing certificate and avaliable from AMAZON at £8.98, this is a film that is pretty ordinary.

Summary: WELCOME TO THE AVERAGE JUNGLE!
