 ... game, there was no way I was going to take Sidney James' cackling at all seriously, so any moments of tension are lost when he's around. Kenneth Connor, on the other hand, does pretty well as the overly nervous hero of the piece, stuttering and shaking all over the place, totally typecast in his usual role that would go on to become "Ooo, my dicky ticker!" in the "Allo Allo" TV series. Ernie, played by Kenneth Connor, is a nervous young Londoner whose job it is to read and check the grammar of new to-be-published, trashy novels. One late night, he is visited by the sinister, zombie-like Mr. Sloane, played by Donald Pleasance, who is seeing over the will of the recently deceased Mr. Gabriel Broughton, Ernie's uncle.
