Disadvantages: The bad hairstyles

I have a dog called Sally and a cat called Harry so I like this film just a bit.

This 1989 Nora Ephron film is a sharp, wry look at the sexes, love and friendship.

The movie begins with Harry Burns (Billy Chrystal) and Sally Allbright (Meg Ryan) sharing a journey to New York following graduation. Sally wants to be a journalist. Harry wants to sleep with Sally, eventhough he is dating her friend Amanda.

Harry is a boorish man who believes he is the most charasmatic male on this planet. Sally is a romantic, who is yet to discover great sex and decent underwear (she has the days of the week on her knickers).

They don't like eachother. Over a ten year span they have two chance meetings, one on a plane , one in a bookstore.

They have recently split up from their perspective partners (Helen ran away with a man called Ira, Joe couldn't commit). They then decide to have dinner as friends.

This is when the film begins in earnest.

Forget the famous faking an orgasm scene (Don't try to copy it either, I once got thrown out of Macdonalds for doing so ).

When Harry Met Sally is much more than that.
Chrystal and Ryan ( both on great form despite terrible hairstyles) are given fantastic support by Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher (Marie and Jesse, their best friends)

Ten reasons to watch this film:

1. It's funny.

2. INCREDIBLY romantic.

3. Has a fantastic soundrack by Harry Connick Jnr.

4. All the characters are acted with great warmth. Indeed, I challenge you NOT to fall in love with Billy Chrystal, just a little bit.

5. It makes 'Sleepless in Seattle' look like a pile of tripe.

6. It reminds you of all the stupid things you do when your in love with someone.

7. Meg Ryan sings (terribly) in it.

8. The script is fantastic.

Jesse: You made a woman meow?
Harry: Yeah I took her to a place t
hat wasn't human .

9. It doesn't have Angelina Jolie in it.

10. It'll give you tips on what not to say to your girlfriend if you're a bloke and make you realise that there's a bit of Sally in all of us if you're a woman.
