Advantages: Good acting, an interesting twist at the end

Disadvantages: Not original, didn't hold my attention.

Whisper is a 2007 film directed by Stewart Hendler. It is horror / thriller fim, quite similar to The Omen films in that there is a creepy little boy that can do strange things!!

The film starts with Max (Josh Holloway) looking at going back on the straight and narrow after some crimes, and wanting to start his own shop. The banks however will not give him the loan he needs to start the business, which is where his friend comes along and mentions a kidnapping job which would get him the money he needs....

At first Max says no, which his wife (Sarah Wayne Callies) backs him up on. But when he gets turned down time and time again from the banks, the ransom money from thiss kidnapping job is starting to look quite appealing.

Max agrees to take the job. It involves kidnapping an 8 year old boy named David, and holding him secure until his mother pays the ransom money for his release. Max poses as Santa and snatches David from his party, and Max, his wife and two other men take the boy to a remote holiday camp which is closed for the winter.

Soon strange things start to happen, the four kidnappers hear "whispers" which put horrific images and ideas into their heads. The boy also draws creepy pictures on the walls of the room where he is being held, which seem to come true shortly after he draws them. He also has the power to make objects move - there is one incident where he makes a screwdriver fall, point down, from a very large height square into someone's head who is standing directly below.

Slowly he manipulates the minds of his four kidnappers, and plays them against each other. Soon the little band of four crumbles, and one by one they die off in various gruesome ways.

I found this film boring , and there wasn't enough action to keep me interested. The acting was good, all parts were played well, but for me the film was too similar to The Omen (demon-child theme) and The Ring (with the boy's drawings). It's all been done before really.

The only good thing about the film was that there was a twist at the end that I actually didn't see coming.

Another thing I found a bit weird was that for all you TV lovers out there you will recognise Max (Josh Holloway) as Sawyer from Lost, and Sarah Wayne Callies who plays Max's wife Roxanne as Sarah from Prison Break. So in some strange way, this was like watching a combination of Lost and Prison Break! I know actors can try other things, but these actors are so strongly associated with their TV series characters I just couldn't get into their characters in this film.

The film is rated 15 and the running time is approx 95 minutes.

Summary: Hmmm.... watch it on TV, don't shell out dosh for the DVD.
