Advantages: Emma Roberts gives a great performance

Disadvantages: Not that relatable unless you go to boarding school

Spoilt LA teenager Poppy (Emma Roberts) has driven her dad mad with her teenage behaviour and he decides he has no choice but to send her off to boarding school in England. Little does she know it's the same boarding school her deceased mother attended in her youth. From the LA sunshine to the dreary grey skies of England, Poppy is not impressed at all by the concept. She is even less impressed when she gets there and has her mobile phone taken off her, is forced to wear drab clothes and has to follow strict rules. All she wants is to go home, and after managing to befriend her dorm mates, they hatch a plan to get her expelled and sent home to LA. But once Poppy meets the headmistresses son (Alex Pettyfer) will she still want to leave?

Emma Roberts is the niece of Julia Roberts and she has that same trademark big smile and screen presence that her aunt has. A perfect film for teenage girls, it's cute, funny and watchable even if the characters and settings are very clichéd and stereotyped. Probably not something you can relate to unless you went to boarding school but there are lots of teenage moments in this film than even if you're not 15 will have you going 'oh god I remember that'! There are some great friendship messages in the film - standing up against bullies, being there for your friends, the fun teenage girls have dressing up and going out and on top of that there's also quite a lot of laughs. Emma Roberts is fairly new on the scene but pulls this role off well. She manages to play the dippy, spoilt airhead from LA as well as transforming into the intelligent, reliable girl who realises it's time to grow up.

This was one of the last films Natasha Richardson made before her untimely death - she plays the schools headmistress and again gives her usual solid performance. Georgia King who plays Harriet is also quite the little scene stealer. Harriet is head girl at the school and quite frankly a bully. She has everyone under her thumb and orders everyone about - she has certainly met her match in Poppy who makes it known that Harriet is not going to bully and intimidate people any longer. But Harriet will stop at nothing to get her own way. I'll leave that little storyline for you to see yourself. But Emma Roberts and Georgia King are especially good in their rivallry scenes together - they really bounce well off of each other and you can carry this school girl rivallry back to your own school days.

This is a great feel good film, perfect for teenager sleepovers or just a light bit of teen entertainment one afternoon. Entertaining, funny and some great performances from some talented actors who I am sure have big things in front of them.

Summary: Entertaining, cute, a great teenage flick
