Advantages: Some good special effects, a few decent jokes.
Disadvantages: Poor script and story.
I just watched this film on Sky Premier, so I would hope this opinion is reasonable as it should be fresh in my mind. The film stars Will Smith, as cowboy Jim West and Kevin Clien as Gordon and undercover officer for the US president and also plays the president himself. This film is set in the 18th Century in Southern US. The film is about Jim and Gordon's mission to prevent Dr Loveless from taking over the Government of America, in conjuntion with European heads of country. Dr Loveless has been taking many of the world's greatest scientist hostage, using them to create the ultimate weapon to overturn the government. Both Dr Loveless and Gordon are inventors. This film's main focus and humour comes from the some what strange inventions both of them create. Other than this entertainment, the film lacks structure and a decent story line. The film tends to rely upon special effects, sacrificing any kind of gripping story. Other than this, Kevin Clein does turn out a pretty decent performance, as he always seems to. The film is worth watching, although it is torn between a 'western' style film and sci-fi action thriller, both of which I do not enjoy. If you are a fan of Will Smith, you'll love this film - you'll get to see his naked body, etc. You may also enjoy this if you like sci-fi too. However, if you enjoy decent scripts and well-presented humour, this isn't for you at all.

- 22/08/01 The only good thing to come out of this movie is that Enrique Iglesias song in the soundtrack - everything else is not worth a penny. |
