Released in 1987 'Withnail and I' is often regarded as one of the greatest comedies of all time and is probably quoted more often than The Bible. It has even spawned its own drinking game for the strong-willed and weak-brained. Although it is advisable to miss out the lighter fluid! Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann were both given their big breaks in this movie and played Withnail and I (Paul Marwood) respectively. I was introduced to this film by a friend when I asked why he kept shouting 'Scrubbers!' out my car window. The film essentially is about friendship. Based in the late 1960's on the lives of two unemployed actors who, following an amphetamine binge, decide a trip to the countryside would be invigorating. What follows is a hilarious and distinctly different blend of British humor and wit than what I have ever seen, with the potential for quoting seemingly random dialogue by Richard E. Being a recent convert to DVD's I was browsing the Internet for something to add to my somewhat limited collection. Unfortunately there are not really many films that I want to buy on DVD, at least none that I don't already own on video. The extra features that are often provided with this new format can be interesting, but rarely worth the extra expense of purchasing a film twice.
