Advantages: A fresh and original movie

Disadvantages: A lot of strong language - not for the easily offended

I find that this film is something of a liquorice covered donut; you love it or hate it. I find that I am part of a generation that seems to have only about 20% Withnail and I lovers in it, but fortunately I am part of that statistic.

Set in a dank depiction of London in 1969, the narrator (played by Paul McGann ...known only as 'I') and his flatmate Withnail (Richard E. Grant) live a life of depression, drugs, dole and alcohol as they continue to struggle to find work as actors. A glimmer of hope appears as they plan an escape to the country to visit the welsh cottage of Withnail's eccentric Uncle Monty (Richard Griffiths)
Uncle Monty's sinister plot unravels as he peruses his nephew and friend into the country side. Comedy, tongue in cheek embarrassment and an uncountable number of quotable lines are all present in this highly original film, which is so far unrivalled in is bizarreness.

Don't be fooled by thinking this film is depressing...it might seem very dirty and dank but it always makes me laugh. It may seem plot-less at times in its simplicity and maybe even a bit homophobic at times, but I challenge you to find somebody who doesn't find Uncle Monty just a little bit creepy, no matter what your inclination is!

This isn't a film for everyone, especially if you're offended by strong language, and I mean A LOT of strong language, but defiantly worth a try if you're looking for a low budget film that tells a very minimal but very charming story of friendship...and what kind of people we sometimes have to class as friends, when things get really desperate!

Summary: To a delightful weekend in the country!

Have never seen it as it does look depressing, but i do love Richard E Grant, so may give it a try !
