Withnail and I is a classic film that I recommend everyone to watch and own. It is set in the 1960's in London and the english countryside, and has two actors (Paul McGann and Richard E.Grant) that bounce off each other with such impact that it has created one of the best masterpieces of all time. This film has such intelligence and wit that it is a film one can watch over and over again and still have the same impact. On the surface it may seem that this film is about two unemployed actors who are on the dole and take numerous amounts of drugs and alcohol, however the cleverness is that it goes much deeper than that. It is about a journey, of friendship, of hard times that nearly everyone in life goes through, yet together they survive and come out of the other end with their heads held high. One of my favourite films of all time.

I like this film for many reasons, it is an easy to watch film, which is also a bonus. I love the simplicity, the way you can just follow the characters and get engrossed with their journey. Too many films focus on props or scenery or gadgets and gizmo's, you often never get to see deep into the characters. This film focuses on the main two characters and their journey, they don't have money, yet they still enjoy themselves and each other's company. It brings everything back to basics, and shows people that you really don't need technology and gadgets and money and superficial things. That you can have a great time with just the simplest of things!
