After the fun but cut and paste Tomorrow Never Dies (which ran out of steam about halfway through) a slight change of direction was required for Pierce Brosnan's third adventure. Michael Apted, a director not known for action or adventure films, was chosen to helm the film. The emphasis was clear. Content that their stunt crews could handle the action, Eon decided to pick a director who could work with actors and give their cast more to do than simply run away from explosions. The World Is Not Enough would be the stripped-down and more realistic Brosnan Bond. Did they succeed? The answer is almost. Apted is the biggest strength of the film but also a ... Well the plot, as always is quite simple and merely an excuse for the action and beautiful women and locations that will appear on screen. What do you expect, it's a bond and this one adds nothing new to the franchise. Sophie Marceau plays Elektra, the Daughter of an oil tycoon that's a close friend of M (Judi Dench). The movie begins with Bond (Pierce Brosnan) recovering a briefcase full of his money that will eventually kill the poor millionaire. From then on M assigns Bond the mission of protecting Elektra, from Renard (Robert Carlyle) who had previously kidnapped her and MI6 prime suspect on the assassination of her father. From this point on Bond ... Read the complete review

Pierce Brosnan is fast proving why he was the ideal choice to play superspy James Bond as he enters his third Bond movie in explosive style. The main plot of the movie is that an evil maniac, played by Robert Carlyle who, thanks to a bullet, is unable to feel any pain. His main aim is to take over the oil business by wreaking the main western source of oil through Kazakstahn. Throw in the daughter of an oil baron, Elektra (played by the lovely Sophie Marceau), who is angry at the fact that a ransom wasn't paid when she was kidnapped and wants revenge on the people who made the decision and another great performance from Robbie Coltraine, who re-afirms his character ... Not a bad choice when you're in the mood to turn your brain off and indulge in the usual, totally implausible James Bond spy fantasy. Okay, you know what you're going to get with a newer Bond film. Here's my take on what worked and didn't: The boat chase and ski chase scenes are expertly done and work. Sophie Marceau's exquisite beauty is a definite plus. The radar sunglasses scene is cool. It was good to see John Cleese in the film, but his role wasn't written to fulfill it's full promise. Also, in my opinion, Q (or Cleese in the future, I suppose) need to do the usual "fill Bond in the gadgets" scene before they are used. During ... Read the complete review

ANothe great bond film, shaken and definetly not stired. Staring Peirce Brosnan this film is another Bond Classic. It includes up to date special effects and uses yet another thriling and gripping storyline. I wont explain the story or it might spoilt it for you if you havenot allready seen the film. My mainpoint though, is how superb this most recent Bond DVD is. The menu is like a bond explosion sequence, all the menu buttons are clearly laid out, and you can quickly get to the part of the mneu that you need to. There is a huge range of special features. Such as the "Bond Down River" documentary which really does give away a lot of the films secrets. The ... Read the complete review
