World Trade Center (DVD) ... Whaley, Stephen Dorff, Maria Bello, Nicolas Cage, Maggie Gyllenhaal ... / DVD released 2007-01-29 at Paramount Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: PAL / In the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, hope is still alive. Refusing to bow down to terrorism, rescuers and family of the victims press forward. Their mission of rescue and recovery is driven by the faith that under each piece of rubble, a co-worker, a friend a family member may be found. This is the true story of John McLoughlin and William J. Jimeno, two of the last survivors extracted from Ground Zero and the rescuers who never gave up. It's a story of the true heroes of that fateful time in the history of the United States when buildings would fall and heroes would rise, literally from the ashes to inspire the entire human race.

... disaster it could have been, although it is painfully flawed, and walks a very fine line between overt sentiment and genuine resonance. The film revolves around two real Port Authority police officers John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) and Will Jimeno (Michael Pena), who are in New York when the towers are hit, and venture over there to try and assist in saving as many lives as possible. However, things get worse then the second tower is hit, and the two become buried under the rubble, fighting for their lives to get f...more

Premium Review World Trade Center (DVD): 9/11 brought out the goodness we forgot could exist (1519 words)
by - written on 17/04/08 (Very useful, 91 readings)
Rating:

This is the true story told from survivors accounts, of two Port Authority Police officers, trapped under the rubble from the collapsed twin towers on 9/11, whilst they had been attempting to help evacuate the buildings. The two main characters are Sergeant John McLoughlin and rookie Will Jemeno. John is played by Nicolas Cage (Matchstick Men) and Will by Michael Peņa (Shooter) and both give outstanding performances. I'm not at all surprised by how well Nicolas Cage took on the role, as I've yet to see him give a bad performance. He fully conveyed the pain, horror, fear and courage of John McLoughlin and was utterly believable from start to finish. I think ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

Warning: May Contain Mild Spoilers Please note this is a review of the film only no dvd extra\'s have been reviewed here. Synopsis The events of September 11 left an indelible mark on most Americans, and certainly on those in the New York City area. Yet as fresh as the images seem, it\'s easy to forget the actual grit, sacrifice, and uncertainty of that day. Director Oliver Stone captures the essence of 9/11 by focusing on the true story of two Port Authority Police Department officers who were trapped beneath the wreckage of the fallen World Trade Center. Veteran officer Sergeant John McLoughlin (Nicholas Cage) and his team, including rookie Will ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review World Trade Center (DVD): The Horrific Events of 9/11 (938 words)
by - written on 17/03/08 (Very useful, 98 readings)
Rating:

'World Trade Center' is the touching tale of the events that took place on September 11th 2001, but is this film actually any good? In all honesty it's not too great at all and is in fact one of the most disappointing films I have seen in a long while. Whilst I appreciate the subject matter and understand why Oliver Stone may have seen it fit to make such a film, I just don't think that such a feature film as this should have been made about such a terrorist attack that killed so many. September 11th 2001 was of course the day that planes were crashed into each of the twin towers and they resultantly collapsed, many people dying in the process. It was a ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review World Brave Centre (1053 words)
by - written on 05/04/08 (Very useful, 200 readings)
Rating:

I'm not a fan of movies based on real life events, as I find them a little too uncomfortable to watch, I prefer to watch something a bit more escapist and funny! But when my brother bought the World Trade Centre DVD when we were out shopping last week, I decided it would be worth a watch, and so I settled down last week to watch World Trade Centre, based on the events of 9/11 in 2001. The film follows the officers of New York City who work in the Port Authority region. When they hear of the first plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Centre, they are dispatched to downtown New York to help with the rescue mission, and are led by Officer John ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review World Trade Center (DVD): Oliver Stones apology to America. (1565 words)
by - written on 13/04/08 (Very useful, 101 readings)
Rating:

Should you smile if you have your picture taken at Ground Zero? I think it's fair to say that this movie is exactly what you think it is, a sentimental two hours that's just as much about being a tribute to New York's police and rescue services as it is an amazing true story about two cops buried under the towers. You would think with Oliver Stone involved it would be anything but, even Michael Moore territory. But even Hollywood's most outspoken director was moved like the rest of us that day, especially by the human stories that shone through that pulled America out the other side, his angle here, Stone wanting to pay respect through his cinema to the those ...  Read the complete review
