Advantages: Outfoxes the first film in every way

Disadvantages: It's MEANT to be funny, some people might not get this

Wrong Turn 2 proves that just because a film is direct to DVD, it isn't necessarily rubbish or unworthy of a theatrical release. Ironically, in fact, it's more deserving of such a release than its shoddy predecessor, which did actually get a big theatrical release. Wrong Turn 2, against every expectation, is a smart and hilarious splatterfest that knows its audience, but's also visually inventive and more fun than 99% of the derivative and unoriginal slashers out there.

The film occurs a few years after the last film, with a film crew recording a Survivor-esque reality TV show, where a bunch of irritating and egotistical teens must survive out in the wilderness. Of course, they didn't realise quite how difficult their survival would be, as the feral mountainmen (and women) of the first film return to feed on those who dare encroach on their territory. What's most hilarious about the film is its depiction of the monster family - they're possible the horniest and most sexually active big bads we've ever seen. One of them...pleasures himself in a bush at one of the beautiful contestants, and in one scene, two of the monsters have incestuous sex, much to the chargrin of the "normal" people.

The real treat of the film is Henry Rollins, a badass toughman known for his small but memorable roles throughout cinema as the tough guy that screams and shouts and generally kicks ass. Here, he's pretty much the only person with any sense or chance of survival, and he brings a great presence to the film that plays off wonderfuly against the sensibilities of the monsters themselves.

Wrong Turn 2 does great credit to direct-to-DVD releases with hilarity and gore in equal measure, as well as a delicious performance from Henry Rollins.

Summary: An amusing satire and gory horror film
