Advantages: 3 NEW CHAMPIONS
Disadvantages: C.M punk V Kane
WWE Backlash 2009 was the follow up pay per view to Wrestlemania 25 and didn't dissapoint.
The pay-per view started with the ECW championship match between the champion Jack Swagger versus Christian. This was a solid match with lots of clever cheating tactics leading to a new champion in Christian. This leads to a nice little backstage segment between Edge and Christian which old school WWE fans will enjoy.
The second match between hall of famer Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat and future Hall of famer Chris Jericho was a classic old school wrestling match. At well over fifty years old Steamboat proved 'he's still got it' even though Jericho scores the pinfall.
C.M Punk versus Kane is the most dissapointing match on the show. Kane picks up the win.
The I Quit match between Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy is good, but a little dissapointing considering the calibre of the two wrestling. The match has a unique finish with Jeff getting his brother Matt to say I Quit.
The WWE Championship match featured the champion Triple H teaming with Shane McMahon and Batista against the team of Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted Di Biase. If Triple H's team got the pin then Triple H remained champion, but if Orton's team won then Orton got the belt. In a gruelling battle it was Orton who pinned Triple H in a shocking finish to become the new champion.
In an awesome main event for the World Heavyweight Championship John Cena defended his title against Edge in a Last Man Standing Match. This match was crazy and went all around the arena. It finally culminated with the help of Big Show throwing Cena in to a spotlight which is worth buying the DVD for alone meaning Edge was the new champion.
The extras included interviews with the participants.
WWE Backlash 2009 ended up having three new champions and was an entertaining event.
Summary: An action packed pay-per-view
