Advantages: Some good bouts

Disadvantages: Nothing mind blowing, a few duds

Vengeance 2004 was not a great PPV by any means, but there were some solid bouts here, and in a year of fairly middling events, this one stood at about average.

The opening match features Tajiri and Rhyno taking on Garrison Cade and Jonathan Coachman, and given how having Coach in a match immediately screams "gimmick", it's not too surprising that this match isn't so good. Not a great opener by any means.

In the second match, Batista takes on Chris Jericho, and helps try and establish Batista as the bestial monster that we know him as now. I'm not a Batista fan at all, but thanks to Jericho carrying the match, this comes across as I imagine Vince McMahon wanted it to.

The third match is for the WWE Tag Titles, with La Resistance defending against Ric Flair and Eugene, in a rather daft lineup. What's more, the match has an utterly inane end that doesn't make any sense other than through how hilariously stupid it is.

Matt Hardy also fights Kane in a No Disqualification match that is decent albeit fairly unremarkable except for a clever ending involving some steel steps that I won't spoil.

Arguably the best match of the night sees Randy Orton defend his IC Title against Edge, and this match really brings out the best of both of them; it's not a technical clinic but it is very exciting and it's really anyone's game.

Victoria fights Molly Holly in a solid but underwhelming women's match that isn't even for a title, nor is it built up well enough storyline wise to really praise.

The main event sees disgraced wrestler Chris Benoit defending his WHC against Triple H, in a decent but again not particularly memorable bout. It stems from Triple H torturing Benoit through attacking Eugene and William Regal.

There are some good matches here; just don't expect anything revelatory.

Summary: Solid event but little more
