Advantages: The gimmick matches
Disadvantages: The swimsuit competition
The Royal Rumble 2000 was one of the hottest pay-per-views of the year. Along with that, it was one of the most brutal, with two top-notch gimmick matches, which I will come to shortly.
Beginning with the under card, the Intercontinental championship match and Tag Team championship matches were pretty much forgettable which is the adjective I wished I could use for the Swimsuit competition, as what should have been a fine display of eye candy for the lads turned into an unforgettable experience when 76 year old Mae Young stripped off to exposed what initially looked to be her naked boobs but what was actually prosthesis which she had on top of her. Still, it certainly shocked the capacity crowd and those watching on live TV.
Elsewhere on the card, former ECW champion Tazz made his debut as Kurt Angle's 'Mystery Opponent' in what was a good bout which served it's purpose of making Tazz look like a real tough nut.
As for the two gimmick matches I eluded to earlier; firstly The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz collided in a thrilling Tables match that featured lots of big spots, before Cactus Jack and Triple H brought out the barbed wire, thumbtacks and anything else they could find in a compelling main event that Hardcore fans would drool over.
As for the 30-Man Royal Rumble match itself, it was quite good, although it was a two man race. Overall though, this was a top notch show that is a must-see for wrestling fans worldwide.
Summary: A brutal PPV
