I have to admit that I only went to see this film because my partner wanted to see it! I'm not sure if I would have without encouragement! But I am X-tremely glad I did (sorry). In fact, I went twice in a few days, something I rarely do with films in the cinema. I can't comment on its faithfulness to the comic because I have never even seen one! Yet, with no X-men background I was still able to enjoy this film and all it's characters. Without giving it all away (not that many will have no idea about this film) it is set in the not-too-distant future, when some humans have evolved a bit quicker than others and taken on certain non-human qualities! There are baddies and goodies leading to a fight to save the planet, basically!
There is some great acting, from 'well-knowns' such as Sir Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart, and some not so well-knowns like Famke Janssen, Hugh Jackman and Ray Park (Toad in X-men, Darth Maul in Starwars). Excellent characterisation, a great plot, some really good lines and brilliant special effects - all in all a great film. Highly recommended. I can't wait for the sequels.
