X-Men Origins - Wolverine

I have never seen an X-Men movie before so I was coming into this film as an absolute novice. I had never really known much about the comic books or the characters so was interested to see whether I would like a film like this but I actually did.

X-Men are a fictional superhero team, a Marvel comics creation. X-Men are actually mutants who have super powers. The X refers to the X gene, an unknown gene that cause mutant evolution. The X-Men are taught to use their powers for the good of humanity.

Of course, in the past couple of weeks I have read all the marketing regarding this newest movie and see some clips of Hugh Jackman in action so was quite excited to see this film just because of him. Hugh plays the title character Wolverine and I must say has a body to die for. His muscles are unbelieveable and throughout this movie was mostly in tight vests or bare chested so you got a really great view of all his best assets! Apparently he underwent some intense weight training for the role and according to an article I read, in one of the infamous scenes (him coming out of a tank of water), that was definitely his body and wasn't touched up at all. His wife is one lucky lady!!

The new Wolverine origins movie is actually a prequel to the first three movies and is set about 10 to fifteen years before the other. It basically explains how Wolverine became like he is and goes through his complex relationship with his brother Victor. It begins with a scene where they are young and Logan/Wolverine learns he has a half brother. We then see his progression from violet past into the character he is today and why.

One of Wolverine's powers is these claws that protract from his hands when he gets angry. At first they are just like wolf's claws but then after an experiment to make him invincible they are actually metal and much more powerful. Wolverine's skeleton was bonded with a indestructible metal called adamantium and this is what makes him much more powerful.

Probably the best part of this movie are the incredible special effects and graphics. At some of the scenes my mouth was just open gaping at what exactly was happening on the screen. Some of the characters powers are so cool that you just think wow. For example there is one girl who can turn her skin into diamonds and thus is a protective layer for her.

I also actually really liked the story in this movie. I sometimes find with a lot of action/comic book hero stories that the story is second best to the special effects but I thought it was just as good as that. It actually kept my interest all the way through as `i was interested to know what happened to the character. There were also quite a few twists and turns that I did not see coming that I really though added to the storyline.

The film had some beautiful locations and I have read that it was mostly filmed in Australia and New Zealand. As I've said above I though Hugh Jackman was great but the other actors were good too. Liev Schreiber played Victor and was great, equally as pumped up but really quite scary. The rest of the cast include actors such as Will.i.am from the Balck Eyed Peas, Dominic Monaghan from Lost and Ryan Reynolds who is married to Scarlett Johannsen.

I would recommend this film, even if action adventure films are not your sort of thing as the story was good as was the on-screen scenery!
